ARABIC FOR Youth- COMPREHENSIVE COURSE

ABOUT THIS COURSE:

The Arabic for youth – Comprehensive Course is an inclusive Arabic course designed for youth. It is designed to guide the students through a wide variety of topics to learn the Arabic language. Based on ACTFL standards, the full course is divided into nine levels. Using Arabic for Youth (العربية للشباب) curriculum, the learners will be able to practice what they learn in the class, and gradually will be able to understand and speak Arabic

COURSE FEATURES

Units include:

Simple greetings, introducing yourself, standard form of Arabic alphabet letters, the first 60 Arabic words from different categories such as animals, food, school stationery, and transportation.

At the end of this course the learner should be able to:

  • Greet other people in a simple way.
  • Recognize and write each letter in its basic form, and pronounce it correctly.
  • Memorize the first 60 Arabic words.

Units include:

Units include: speaking about yourself and introducing yourself in male and female form, conjugating verbs with (I, he, and she), main propositions, main adjectives, advanced symbols (shaddah & tanween), family, house stuff, body parts,  food, and animals.

At the end of this course the learner should be able to:

  • Do the basic greeting with the masculine and feminine pronouns in the basic greeting and introduction.
  • Identify the numbers from one to ten.
  • Ask and answer the basic questions about the name and the home country.
  • Conjugate verbs with (I, he, and she).
  • Use main adjectives to describe things, animals, and people.
  • Use demonstrative pronouns for male and female.
  • Using the basic words to talk about: the house, family, food, body parts, and animals.

Units include: meeting new people, conjugating verbs with (you, he, and she), future tense of verbs, jobs and professions, colors, extended family, furniture, house appliances, food, weather, countries, and places.

Countries and nationalities, time, house parts, shopping, places, daily routines, days of the week, interrogative words, types of Arabic words, and propositions.

Prerequisite: Arabic for Youth N2 Novice Mid (or equivalent)

At the end of this course the learner should be able to:

  • Ask questions about familiar topics.
  • Conjugate verbs with (I, he, and she) subjects in present, past, and future tense.
  • Recognize singulars and plurals.
  • Describe where they live.
  • Do shopping in a grocery store.
  • Recognize the two types of Arabic sentences.
  • Negate present verb tense.
  • Use the basic words to talk about: countries and nationalities, time, house parts, shopping, places, daily routines, and days of the week.

Units include:

Feelings, the five senses, traveling, weather, sports, hobbies and activities, illness, food, masculine and feminine nouns, dual and plural forms, subject pronouns, past tense, imperative tense, and numbers (11-99).

At the end of this course the learner should be able to:

  • Order and buy food in Arabic.
  • Conjugate past and imperative verbs with different subjects.
  • Recognize masculine and feminine nouns.
  • Recognize singular, dual, and plural forms
  • Identify the numbers 11- 99.
  • Write a simple paragraph about familiar topics.
  • Use the basic words to talk about: feelings, the five senses, traveling, weather, sports, hobbies and activities, illness, food, and numbers.

travel and transportation, in the hotel, tourism, building a house, daily routine, using Arabic dictionary, conjunctions, words patterns, words roots, the two types of the Arabic sentence, silent and pronounced definition article.

At the end of this course the learner should be able to:

  • Talk about: travel and transportation, in the hotel, tourism, building a house, daily routine,
  • Describe a picture with a developed paragraph using conjunctions.
  • Describe a school day using present tense and different adjectives.
  • Describe places they have visited.
  • Find 3-4 letters words’ roots and patterns.
  • Find words’ meanings in the dictionary.
  • Read words with definition articles and recognize when it is silent or pronounced.

Units include:

time management, places and directions, shopping, tourism, traffic signs, rules, ordering food, Iftar Ramadan, cities and landmarks, writing a developed paragraph, the elements of the nominal sentence, the definition article, definite and indefinite nouns, present tense verb conjugation, masculine and feminine nouns.

At the end of this course the learners should be able to:

  • Talk about: daily schedule, places and directions, shopping, tourism, traffic signs, rules, ordering food, Iftar Ramadan, and cities and landmarks.
  • Make conversations about touristic cities such as landmarks, transportation, stores, hotels, and restaurants.
  • Read traffic signs in Arabic cities.
  • Describe a city with the main landmarks.
  • Read an Arabic text without Harakat.
  • Change between masculine and feminine forms.
  • Describe how they spend their school day, off day, and free time.
  • List some basic information about Arabic countries.
  • Conjugate present tense with different subjects.

Units include:

Tourism in an Arabic city, phone conversation, writing a letter, in the street, traditional food, cities features, homesickness, in the post office, communication, renting and buying a house, rent a car, looking for an apartment, singular/ dual/ and plural forms, the two types of Taa’, and past tense verb conjugation.

Prerequisite: Arabic for Youth I1 Intermediate Mid (or equivalent)

At the end of this course the learners should be able to:

  • Make conversations in touristic places such as transportation, stores, hotels, and restaurants.
  • Make a conversation over the phone.
  • Write a letter.
  • Speak about travel and transportation.
  • Speak about traditions and cultures.
  • Use the Arabic language to send mail from the post office.
  • Use the Arabic language to rent, buy, or sell a house.
  • Use the Arabic language to rent a car.
  • Use nouns and verbs in singular, dual, and plural forms.
  • Conjugate past tense verb.

Units include:

Arabs celebrations,  illnesses and medical issues, healthy and unhealthy habits, city and urban life, present tense verb conjugation, imperative tense verb conjugation, and agreements with adjectives and the described nouns.

At the end of this course the learners should be able to:

  • Talk about holidays and celebrations on the Arabic calendar such as Ramadan, Haj, and Eid.
  • Talk about healthy and unhealthy habits and food.
  • Describe city life vs urban life.
  • Conjugate present, and imperative tense verbs.
  • Apply correctly agreements with adjectives and the described nouns

Units include: watching the news, reading a newsletter, Arabic folk tales, negation sentences, and infinitive verbs.

At the end of this course the learners should be able to:

  • Describe caricatures from newsletters.
  • Analyze pieces of news.
  • Read Arabic texts without symbols (Harakaat).
  • Negate sentences in past, present, and future.
  • Recite and summarize Arabic folk tales from Arabian nights, Kalilah wa Dimnah, and Juha.
  • Paraphrase dialogues and stories.
